April 27, 2011 Storms

On April 27, 2011, much of the South was experienced an outbreak of tornadic thunderstorms.  CNN has compiled a list of possible tornado locations, you can find it here.  During the storms, Franklin County lost all power and cell phone coverage.  While Huntland took the brunt of the storm damage here in Franklin County, power was out for the rest of the county due to a large number of trees down as well as transmission line damage coming out of Alabama.  They told people that it could be 3-4 days before they get power back and weeks till everything is back to normal.  Hillsboro will be subject to rolling blackouts due to system load.  My power was out for 24 hours almost to the dot before it came back online.  One of the more eerie things to happen is the debris from Alabama falling out of the sky.  People from Winchester, Estill Springs, Tullahoma, and Manchester have been finding light paper items that the storm picked up in Alabama including envelopes, bills, pages of books, and photos.  A Facebook page has been setup so that people can share the items in an attempt to find the owners.  You can find it here.

I did manage to take some photos of the storm after it lessened.  I’ve posted them below.

Fall Creek Falls October 23, 2010

Saturday was the second trip I’ve taken to Fall Creek Falls.  Almost a year to the day of the last visit to see the leaves changing.  This year was sort of a mixed bag.  Only one of the primary falls had enough water.  Leaves were a bit more scarce in areas but just as colorful.  Overall, it was still a decent trip.  Below are the pictures from this year, below them is a link to last year’s.

Polly Crockett Days 2010 – Cowan, TN

It’s that time of year again for the Polly Crockett Days Festival in Cowan, Tennessee.  It was a lot hotter this year at the festival, but still a relatively good turnout.  They didn’t have a car show this year, nor did I see many antique engines like I did last year.  One person was back again with a hit-and-miss engine making ice cream.  One big new item this year was the Civil War Cannon Reenactments.  I took plenty of photos, as usual.  This set includes photos of one of the cannons firing.  They had two cannons, but from the top floor of the Cowan Train Museum I could only see one of them.  You can view the schedule of events here and browse my photos below.

2010 Dogwood Festival – Winchester, TN

These are pictures from the 2010 Dogwood Festival in Winchester, TN.  This includes two sets of images, one from during the day Saturday and another of Saturday nights bands.  The Last Straw opened for Foghat.  Foghat ended up performing an encore of Slow Ride that pretty much had the Winchester Square rocking.  There was a helicopter flyover just before Foghat came on.  Wished they would have done it during the performance of Slow Ride.
