Larry’s Bar-B-Que Decherd, Tennessee

IR Remotes and LCD TVs

I just wanted to put some info out regarding problems that can be encountered with IR Remotes mixed with some LCD TVs. If you have problems with your device remote (Dish Network, AT&T U-Verse, etc) working immediately after you turn on your LCD, check your TV’s back-light settings. I’ve heard that the problem is due to the TV putting out too much infrared radiation during its warm up stage. Apparently, increasing the intensity of the back-light diminishes this IR interference. This has been tested and does work on for a Sharp Aquos paired with a Dish Network DVR and a Sharp Aquos paired with an AT&T U-Verse DVR. For me, I had my TV set at about half intensity and only had to bump the back-light by a few points for the DVR remote to start working again.

Fall Creek Falls October 23, 2010

Saturday was the second trip I’ve taken to Fall Creek Falls. Almost a year to the day of the last visit to see the leaves changing. This year was sort of a mixed bag. Only one of the primary falls had enough water. Leaves were a bit more scarce in areas but just as colorful. Overall, it was still a decent trip. October 12, 2010 Lightning Storm

An evening thunderstorm rolled through last night. While I did not setup the D5000, I did capture the following with my phone’s camera. You can see the youtube video of it here as well as still shots below.

Polly Crockett Days 2010 – Cowan, TN

It’s that time of year again for the Polly Crockett Days Festival in Cowan, Tennessee. It was a lot hotter this year at the festival, but still a relatively good turnout. They didn’t have a car show this year, nor did I see many antique engines like I did last year. One person was back again with a hit-and-miss engine making ice cream. One big new item this year was the Civil War Cannon Reenactments. I took plenty of photos, as usual. This set includes photos of one of the cannons firing. They had two cannons, but from the top floor of the Cowan Train Museum I could only see one of them. You can view the schedule of events here and browse my photos below.
